I am going to step away from my time here in la Republica Dominicana to talk about family and the wonderful election results this past week.
Euphoria
I think that one word describes my feelings for about 36 hours after this week's elections back home in the states. It is an easy analysis. So many people, like myself, had years of pent up anger at the direction the people in power have taken us. So many selfish decisions without regard to how they were hurting the country. So much arrogance. So many young American lives lost. The neocons got just what they deserved.
In Missouri, Bush clone Jim Talent is out and Claire McCaskill (picture above) is in. Forever my thoughts of Talent will be the e-mails of concern I sent to him only to receive re-election propaganda in return. Never once did he or his people address my concerns. Good riddance!
Hope
Perhaps we have finally reached the bottom of the well and can now begin to crawl out. Now that there are finally some checks and balances that should control the monumentally important decisions that have to be made, maybe things will begin to get better. Perhaps the decisions made will be more in line with the feelings of the majority of Americans. Perhaps now we can begin a gradual withdrawal of our troops and begin to bring them home. Perhaps we can begin to put some distance between ourselves and the terrible results of policies that were made.
Overwhelming Euphoria
Rumsfeld is gone. I almost have to shake myself with disbelief. The arrogant one is gone. Please give us a man who will have a real plan, a man who will listen to our generals on the ground, a man who will do what is right.
The early returns on Secretary of Defense nominee Robert Gates (pictured above) appear to be good. He is said to be pragmatic with a lot of common sense, a man who will listen to others, a man with some flexibility.
I am enjoying trading e-mails with my future daughter-in-law Sherry. Sherry and John are in Edmonton while John prepares for his upcoming, very important, Step One Medical School Boards.
Recently Rachel and Matthew visited them in Edmonton. They returned just gushing with how much they like Sherry. They didn't say much about you John! I will be posting pictures of their trip on this blog soon.
I am very anxious to finally meet Sherry in person next spring.
John and Sherry have applied for her K-1 Fiancee visa and it is expected to take several months for it to come through.

A lot of people also in my country Canada, are very happy with the wonderful election results in the U.S. We are hopping like you for a better understanding and planning of world affairs without the arrogance of the still in power president. With the Democrats he will now have to listen before taking action. Lets hope for the best. For you and your family.
