Just a quiet day in Sosua

Street Scenes

I have a favorite place that I go sit and watch all the activity in the street. For me, it is one of my favorite things to do. The streets in the Dominican Republic are always buzzing with activity. My spot is a shaded area along a low-brick wall across the street from my bank (al banco Santa Cruz). Here are three street scenes I photographed.

The freeze pop guy.

These guys walk the streets and sell all different flavors of freeze pops (popcicles). They are only $10 pesos each ($0.30 more or less). They are really good on a hot afternoon.

Jose, the oyster guy

Jose is a friend of mine. He is a funny guy, a very nice man. He walks the streets all day trying to sell fresh oysters to support his family. Jose was excited to have his picture taken for my family to see and he said to tell you hello. A great guy, but I don't eat his oysters.

The ice cream guy

This guy drives up and down the street with a cooler full of ice cream bars on the back of his moto (motorcycle). They are pretty good.

In the future I will take more pictures of people working on the street. There is an endless stream selling virtually everything and they are very different from what we are used to seeing in the states.

Just a line to tell you that the oysters are very good. It took me years before getting myself to eat them, but since I started I cannot stop myself. Hummmmm! So gooooood!
