Siempre Sol ... for Renato
Yesterday I walked down Pedro Clisante, through the beach to los Charamicos. I wanted to get some exercise, take a few pictures and browse in the little shops at the beach for artwork. I also have a friend who works in los Charamicos who I had not seen as yet on this trip. I was able to find her and we had a nice chat. I hope to do a posting or two featuring los Charamicos soon. It is a very interesting place.
Siempre Sol is a very popular bar/restaurant located about midway down the beach. It is the favorite stop for Renato, who checks in on this blogsite daily. Renato is a Canadian who is the moderator of one of the Sosua Yahoo Groups ... sosuadominicanrepublic. He has been kind enough to post many of the pictures from my blogsite in a folder on the group site. Renato will be joining us here in paradise the first part of January.
Renato, I introduced myself to Herman and gave him your regards. The bar was busy as usual.
Word for the day ... buen provecho ... enjoy your meal
This little saying, as most people who spend time here know, is what is customarily said at the table when the meal has arrived and is ready to be eaten. It means the same as when the french say bon appetit.
I was asked the other day by a German friend what the Americans customarily say before the meal. I paused, thought for a few moments, and told him as far as I know we have no traditional phrase that applies ... perhaps 'Down The Hatch.' Honestly I don't think the typical American slows down enough to enjoy the meal the way the Europeans do. I mean what can you say when you are eating a McDonald's double cheeseburger and fries in the car on the way to the next thing on a too crowded calendar. Thank God I am retired and finally learning to enjoy life.

Thank you Miguel for saying hello to Herman for me and for the pictures. Herman never changes, always busy and close to his customers. Did you know that in his younger years that he was a model in his country. He has a photo in his bar at that age and must have been a grand seducer, still is by the way. Chow and thanks again Miguel.
I am looking forward to your posts on Los Charimicos; great spot to hang out and play dominoes.
